Tooltips and the Skillbar
After puzzling around a bit with my interface, I'm pretty annoyed about the tooltips popping up when you hover your mousepointer over a skillbutton.
I wanted to place the targetdisplay there, but it gets covered by the tooltipps, that's rather nasty when you want to see what the enemy is casting to interrupt him Is there any way to disable them? Forum searches yielded no information about it, maybe I was just to dumb or used the wrong keyword(s). Thanks in advance! |

I don't know about the tooltips, but if you don't already know you can rearrange your interface using the menu choice "Customize". I've changed mine up a bit, and it's a great help. I've enlarged my health/power bars and moved the target display so that it is down with the rest of the important info. I've also moved the 'target casting' bar closer to the center of the screen to make it more obvious to me when they're casting.

Under Menu - Options - Control Setup - poke the button for Disable Hints.
I don`t know if this is what your looking for as I haven`t tried it but looks logical. |

At first, thanks for the answers!
I know how to customize my GUI, but that's where the problem starts. I'd really like to have the targetdisplay right above my healthbar, but the tooltips would cover it when placed there. Quite nasty, especially cause they don't contain any really needed information...I know what skills I have and what they do. I tried the "disable hints" option, too, hoping that would solve my problem, but actually it did nothing. I guess that's just for switching off the hints you get in the tutorial when starting a new character. There are sooo many options to customize everything...but I can't find a checkbox or whatever to switch those popups off. Or is there none? Anybody else tried to get rid off them? |

Try not putting your mouse on top of your skills!

Actually that makes it pretty hard to use any skills if you use your mouse to activate them
And no, I don't like to use keys for triggering skills. Took me quite some time to redefine the keys to perfectly fit my needs. Tried to put them on the other mousebuttons, but that is still not working properly, so I have to stick to my mousepointer to use skills...and that opens up the problem of the tooltips. Seems like I'm either stuck with a controlsetup I don't like or a GUI that...erm...somehow looks weird Did ANet really forgot to implement a tiny funky small checkbox for disabling them? |

Forgive me if this sounds noobish, and I may already know what it refers to but I just don't know the proper naming but...
what is the target display? Is that only on screen when you have something targeted? what is target casting bar? Does this refer to the icon that pops up under the targeted enemies healthbar when they cast a spell or use a skill? I ask because here is how my screen looks from day 1 - Weapon Slots lower left, Party Screen above that, Skills bar bottom-center, circle area map upper right, at time the drop down District bar upper left. That's it..well cept for the menu button in lower left. |

Yep, target display shows the targets healthbar. And the skillmonitor ( I guess that's what you were talking about when reffering to "target casting bar" ) is by default right below it showing the skills the target is using.

Seriously, I use the mouse to click my skills 5-8 all the time without this problem. I have my setup like so:
Skillbar at top-center Enemy health just below skillbar Enemy skill casting notification just below Enemy health I don't have a problem with the skill tooltips. My mouse is usually not on the skillbar because I am using it to move around and only move to the skillbar when I need to cast something. If it is a skill that takes quick reflexes I make sure it is a 1-4 skill so I can easily mash it with the keyboard :-) Maybe you can just slide the skill monitor thingy over to the left a tad so that the skill you are always hovering over will not cover it up when the tooltip comes up. |

Already moved the skillbar a bit up to not be covered even by accident.
And putting the targets health bar below the skillbar definately sounds interesting, that would eliminate the last really big annoyance in my setup, got to try it. Thanks for the tip Exploring every area of the map seems to be neither a challenge nor as timeconsuming than finding the perfect customisation of your GUI |
